Days like these never leave you.
Although Mart and Jo invited me out to document their wedding in Italy last summer, it feels like yesterday. Mart is a DJ and met Jo at a New Years Eve party he was playing. And whilst they’re based in the UK, they’d spent so many amazing times together in Italy it was only fitting to get married there.
It was an incredible weekend in the beautiful town of Volterra, with the ceremony taking place at Piazza dei Priori – the oldest town hall in Tuscany, and without doubt the most stunning I’ve ever seen. So much history embedded in those walls.
One of the many things I love about photographing weddings in Italy is how invested the locals become in the day. After the ceremony, we were welcomed into the square to a sea of Italian onlookers, cheering as Mart and Jo made their way out of Piazza dei Priori as husband and wife. Seeing that level of support and affection to people they’ve never met was a real heart warmer.
The rest of the day was spent at Villa Di Ulignano, a place passed down through a family of famous Italian film directors and was as enchanting as it sounds, with the most insane views looking out over the Tuscan hills.
Here’s a look at how it all went down.
