Sometimes as a wedding photographer, I find myself questioning whether what I do is enough, whether my job is adding anything significant to the lives of people around me. But then a wedding like Mike and Rachel’s comes along and it gives you all of the answers.
Mike’s dad sadly passed away at the beginning of the year and to add to this, his Mum was unexpectedly taken into hospital a few days before the wedding and was unable to make it down to Devon to join them. When news like that comes, it takes a strong person to pick themselves up from it and carry on, but Mike did exactly that thanks to Rachel, their dog Broosey and an amazing group of family and friends around him. It was an incredible day celebrating life and love, and I can’t tell you how special it felt to be a part of it all.
Mike managed to visit his Mum in hospital the day after the wedding and they sat together going through some of the images I’d taken. Knowing I was able to provide this for someone gave me so much happiness and provided me with the big slap in the face that I needed.
This does matter.
