When I arrived at the Sophie’s parent’s home in Italy to start covering the preparations for the wedding, I was welcomed in by her father Simon. Before I started, Simon pulled out a scrapbook of photos showing me how the place looked 3 years previous. It was nothing more than rubble and just by looking around you could see how much work he’d put into rebuilding it from the ground up – it was a labour of love and was evident from his smile how proud he was that Sophie was using it as the place to get ready before the wedding.
Kolli is from Iceland and Sophie, from the UK. Two of the most genuine and lovely people you could wish to meet. Friends for life.
It was an incredible day that will stay with me for a long time – a personal highlight being Kolli’s father (who used to be a professional singer back in Iceland) playing piano at the end of the speeches, with everyone singing along. The room felt united. And there wasn’t a dry eye by the end of it.
